Thermal simulations
Thermal simulation is a powerful tool that we use for several applications in our work. The result gives us a better way of understanding complicated coupled processes in hydraulic and thermal applications. Common simulations are:
- Evaluation of measured data (flow, pressure, temperature).
- Data response at defect development (at PFMA studies).
- Optimization of monitoring systems.
- Detection of leakage from pipelines.
Simulations are made using the multi-physics software COMSOL™. Of special interest is to study the temperature change due to a seepage increase, especially at internal erosion which is one of the major reasons for embankment dam failures. By modelling we can demonstrate the usefulness of temperature monitoring for seepage detection.
